Capstone was established in 1989 by its current owner and president, M. Daniel Smith. As the founder and owner of several companies ranked on the Inc. 500 list of America’s fastest-growing privately held companies, including a diversified $78 million company with eight subsidiaries in seven states, Dan’s success in business growth and strategic acquisitions attracted numerous small- to medium-sized investment banks. But none offered the real-life business experience, operational expertise or industry knowledge required to meet his needs. Surveying his business owner peers, Dan learned that many shared his frustration.
