Secured Socket Layer (SSL)

Secure Socket Layer (SSL) is a cryptographic protocol furnishing safe, encrypted Internet communication. It guarantees the confidentiality, integrity, and genuineness of data dispatched between web browsers and servers. SSL has been succeeded by Transport Layer Security (TLS), but the term "SSL" is still generally used to direct to the protocols and certificates associated with secure website linkages.
