Negative convexity

Negative convexity is a characteristic of certain bonds or securities where their price and yield relationship behaves in an inverse manner compared to a linear relationship. In other words, as interest rates rise, the price of a security with negative convexity falls more than it would with a linear relationship, while the price increase is limited when interest rates decline. This feature introduces additional risks for investors, especially in mortgage-backed securities.
