Asset-Backed Security

A bond supported by an accumulation of assets like mortgages or credit card debt. Asset-backed securities are a type of security that represents ownership in a larger group of assets. In the case of a Collateralized Debt Obligation (CDO), the underlying assets may be ABS or other asset classes; in other cases, the underlying assets may be an accumulation of commercial or residential mortgages.
